The CRLS CoP is a Community of Practice established by Coastal Zone Canada Association (CZCA) for knowledge-exchange, information sharing and communication among its members to develop an understanding of living shorelines. The CRLS CoP is involved in knowledge-sharing and research, capacity-building and education, public outreach and engagement, and advocacy and consultation for living shorelines across North America.
The Maritime Natural Infrastructure Collaborative was established in 2017 by various organizations across Maritime Canada. It works to build an understanding of services provided by natural areas. The Collaborative is involved in developing tools, delivering education and building capacity across different sectors for the utilization of natural infrastructure.
The Green Shores program, run by the Stewardship Centre for British Columbia provides ecologically-friendly solutions for shoreline development. The program covers education and outreach through workshops and trainings, provides resources and technical information on current research, and a credit and rating system on Green Shores for homes and for coastal development.
The report, prepared by Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, assesses the quantitative value of wetlands in Southern Ontario to reduce flood damages. In this research it was determined that if wetlands are maintained in their natural state, they can reduce the costs of flood damage to the buildings. Even though the research is focused on Southern Ontario, the findings have national applicability.
